BaZi chart

In BaZi timing traditions, Gou aligns with the fifth lunar month around the summer solstice, where peak fire gives birth to the initial hidden yin within the earthly branches.

Heavenly stems and branches reflect robust radiance accompanied by the first stirring of subtle, testing forces that can unravel momentum if neglected.

Classical chart analysis advises capitalizing on sudden opportunities while strictly safeguarding core structures against hidden leakage. Discerning faint early shifts keeps your overall trajectory balanced and secure.

Western astrology chart

Planetary archetypes reflect a potent confluence of Mercury interwoven with Neptune and Venus, sparking rapid synchronicities alongside unclear boundaries.

While these fleeting configurations offer creative sparks and wide social reach, they also introduce subtle deceptive currents beneath the surface. Astrological traditions emphasize setting firm definitions at the threshold of every exciting invitation.

Maintaining lucid self-possession ensures unexpected connections inspire rather than destabilize you.

I Ching casting

Composed of Qian above and Xun below, Heaven over Wind depicts universal proclamation and spontaneous conjunction where the receptive meets the firm.

The judgment warns against hasty entanglements because an encroaching soft element may undermine long-term stability if left unchecked. The Tuan commentary celebrates how cosmic meetings bring all things to bloom, provided firmness meets the central and correct path.

Welcoming fortuitous connections while keeping ethical boundaries firm allows you to harvest opportunity safely.

Career

Unexpected proposals, external partners, or sudden structural pivots arrive with high energy and immediate promise.

While these encounters broaden reach, the Xiang commentary urges broadcasting explicit mandates and protocols so creeping informalities do not erode organizational standards. Classical analysis reminds us that ground rules must precede rapid expansion.

Defining exact responsibilities from day one ensures new partnerships remain productive.

Wealth

Tempting speculative gains or sudden windfalls may present themselves unexpectedly, yet their long-term sustainability remains questionable.

Classical principles warn against mistaking an ephemeral windfall for an enduring revenue stream, urging caution against subtle operational costs. Maintaining steady financial governance prevents seductive opportunities from diluting your core capital.

Treat surprise financial breaks as brief bonuses rather than foundations for future commitments.

Love & relationships

Powerful attractions and serendipitous meetings may ignite rapidly, yet deep character alignment takes time to verify beneath initial chemistry. The hexagram judgment cautions against rushing into binding commitments before mutual values are tested by daily reality.

Traditional commentary advises enjoying the magic of discovery while holding space for healthy discernment. Taking time to truly know one another protects your heart and preserves genuine connection.

Health

Seasonal transitions corresponding to summer heat turning inward call for shielding the respiratory tracts and endocrine system from sudden climatic shifts.

Traditional regimens highlight harmonizing external wind exposure and moderating dietary excess so hidden damp-heat does not accumulate quietly. Addressing slight discomforts when they first appear keeps overall vitality resilient.

Consistent daily moderation prevents minor fatigue from turning into stubborn debility.

Personal growth

Inner cultivation hinges on noticing the very first arising of transient desires or reactive thoughts before they dictate conduct. Classical philosophy values Hexagram 44 for its supreme lesson in spotting subtle beginnings and mastering impulses at their root.

Cultivating quiet self-awareness allows you to discern whether an impulse serves your highest integrity or merely flatters the ego. Catching small deviations early keeps your inner life luminous and steady.

Compatibility

A swift, exciting connection often sparks immediate rapport and creative synergy between two parties, but long-term endurance requires tested durability.

Relationship lore suggests observing how each person handles boundaries, transparency, and accountability before forging deep interdependence. Grounding shared enthusiasm in honest communication prevents disillusionment later.

Equal respect and clear limits allow a promising acquaintance to mature gracefully.

Fortune periods

This overarching phase brings frequent environmental shifts, fresh alliances, and fluid circumstances that demand nimble adaptation. Ancient readings counsel operating like wind across the earth—clarifying your mission widely while guarding baseline assets from creeping erosion.

Adapting quickly to emerging trends while honoring core principles turns turbulent currents into driving tailwinds. Staying alert to subtle background shifts keeps your long-range journey safe and steady.

Annual reading

The year presents diverse networking possibilities, spontaneous collaborations, and an expanded social sphere that energizes daily affairs.

Classical annual forecasts advise formalizing agreements in writing rather than relying on casual verbal understandings that invite misunderstanding. Channeling new connections into well-structured projects encourages enthusiasm to yield tangible progress.

Thoughtful vetting of every new invitation keeps your annual gains intact.

Name analysis

In onomastic studies, the structural imagery of Heaven and Wind denotes clear vocal resonance, eloquence, and social agility capable of riding cultural currents.

Classical naming treatises recommend balancing this dynamic wind-like movement with grounding, earthen or steadying radicals so brilliance is anchored by substance. Aligning communicative charm with moral weight shields the bearer from superficial drift.

A balanced name provides both persuasive grace and rooted authority.

Date selection

Date selection lore views the timing of Hexagram 44 as favorable for public announcements, open seminars, marketing releases, and broad networking.

It is traditionally considered unsuitable for solemn marriages, permanent covenants, or exclusive long-term alliances where singular fidelity is paramount. Aligning public declarations with hours that balance metal clarity and wood vitality maximizes resonance.

Choosing this day for sharing ideas spreads your message far and wide.

Feng Shui

Spatial arrangements under this hexagram exhibit swift air movement and expansive open vistas, supporting reputation and fluid social interchange.

Traditional geomancy cautions that excessive drafts or aligned doors create draft corridors that disperse accumulated wealth and domestic tranquility. Introducing decorative screens or stabilizing focal elements near entries gathers positive qi without stifling circulation.

Harmonizing lively airflow with stable interior anchors keeps the home both vibrant and serene.

Tuan commentary

Kâu has the significance of unexpectedly coming on. (We see in it) the weak (line) coming unexpectedly on the strong ones. ‘It will not be good to marry (such) a female:’—one (so symbolised) should not be long associated with.

Heaven and earth meeting together (as here represented), all the variety of natural things become fully displayed. When a strong (line) finds itself in the central and correct position, (good government) will greatly prevail all under the sky.

Great indeed is the significance of what has to be done at the time indicated by Kâu!

Great Image

(The trigram representing) wind and that for the sky above it form Kâu. The sovereign, in accordance with this, delivers his charges, and promulgates his announcements throughout the four quarters (of the kingdom).

Classical commentary

Zhouyi BenyiJudgment

Gòu: anciently pronounced hòu; qǔ: pronounced qù. Gòu means meeting. When breakthrough is complete, it becomes pure Qian, the hexagram of the fourth month. Only when reaching Gòu can a single yin be seen, making it the hexagram of the fifth month.

Because it was originally unexpected and suddenly encountered, like meeting without an appointment, it is called meeting. Meeting is already improper, and for one yin to encounter five yang lines means the woman's virtue is unchaste and excessively forward.

Taking her to match oneself will surely harm the yang; hence its image and omen are like this.

Zhouyi BenyiTuan commentary

Explaining the name of the hexagram; explaining the hexagram judgment; speaking in terms of the hexagram's structure; referring to Nine in the Fifth Place; the subtle incipience of things is what the sage treats with caution.

Yichuan YizhuanJudgment

Hexagram 44, Coming to Meet. The Sequence of Hexagrams says: 'Breakthrough means deciding; deciding surely involves meeting, hence it is received by Coming to Meet. Coming to Meet means meeting.'

Deciding means separating; when things separate, they meet and join; if they were united from the beginning, what meeting would there be? This is why Coming to Meet follows Breakthrough. As a hexagram, it has Qian above and Xun below.

In terms of the two constituent trigrams, wind travels under heaven; under heaven are all living things. As the wind blows, there is nothing it does not touch; this is the image of meeting.

Furthermore, a single yin begins to be born below, where yin meets with yang; hence it is Coming to Meet. A single yin begins to be born, and from here it will grow and gradually flourish; this is a woman about to grow strong.

When yin grows, yang wanes; when the woman is strong, the man is weakened; hence the admonition: do not take such a woman. In taking a wife, one desires her to be yielding, harmonious, and compliant to fulfill the way of the household.

Coming to Meet represents a newly advancing yin that gradually grows strong to rival yang, which is why she must not be taken. When a woman grows excessively bold, the correctness between male and female is lost, and the way of the household falls to ruin.

Though the single yin in Coming to Meet is very faint, it contains the momentum of gradual growth, which is why the admonition is given.

Yichuan YizhuanTuan commentary

The meaning of Gòu is meeting. The hexagram is Coming to Meet because the yielding meets the firm; a single yin is newly born and begins to meet with yang. Once a single yin is born, it gradually grows and flourishes; when yin flourishes, yang declines.

Taking a wife is intended to last long and establish a household; this gradually flourishing yin will erode and overcome yang, so one cannot endure with her for long. Whenever women, petty persons, or foreign tribes gradually gain momentum, how can one remain with them long?

Hence the warning: do not take such a woman. Yin begins to arise below and meets with yang; this is heaven and earth meeting each other.

If yin and yang do not encounter each other, the myriad things are not born; when heaven and earth meet, they transform and nurture all kinds, and all things become radiant and manifest. This speaks in terms of the hexagram's virtues.

Both the fifth and the second lines occupy the center and correctness with firm yang, meeting each other with centrality and correctness.

The ruler obtains a minister of firm centrality, and the minister meets a ruler of central correctness; when sovereign and minister meet with firm yang and central correctness, their Dao can be practiced on a grand scale throughout all under heaven. Oh!

Praising the time and meaning of Coming to Meet as supremely great: if heaven and earth do not meet, the myriad things are not born; if ruler and minister do not meet, governance does not arise; if sages and worthies do not meet, virtue and the Dao do not flourish; if affairs and objects do not meet, function and efficacy are not achieved.

The time and meaning of Coming to Meet are both exceedingly great.

Yichuan YizhuanGreat Image

Wind moves beneath heaven, reaching everywhere without exception. Observing this image of all-pervading reach, the sovereign ruler issues his commands and proclaims them to the four quarters.

Wind moving over the earth and wind beneath heaven are both images of reaching all things; yet moving over the earth touches all things everywhere, which is hexagram Guan, the image of traversing, inspecting, and observing.

Moving beneath heaven reaches all four quarters, which is hexagram Gou, the image of issuing decrees and broadcasting commands. Among the Xiang commentaries, some refer to the 'ancient kings,' some to the 'sovereign ruler,' and some to the 'noble person' or 'great person.'

Referring to ancient kings applies to instituting laws, establishing states, composing music, inspecting regions, rectifying laws, closing the passes, nurturing creatures, and sacrificing to the Lord on High.

Referring to the sovereign ruler applies to what ruler-kings do, such as fashioning the way of heaven and earth, and issuing commands to the four quarters.

'Noble person' is a general designation for those above and below; 'great person' is a general designation for princes and dukes.

Zhouyi ZhuTuan commentary

Applied to human affairs, it is a woman meeting a man. One woman meeting five men is bold to the extreme, hence she must not be taken. Correctness leads to the accomplishment of work. Transformation is then practiced on a grand scale. Oh!

Whenever 'meaning' is mentioned, it is not exhausted by what is seen; within it lies a deeper intended meaning.

Zhouyi ZhengyiJudgment

Sub-commentary: 'Gòu means meeting.' In this hexagram, one yielding line meets five firm lines, hence it is named Coming to Meet.

Applied to human affairs, it is one woman meeting five men, being bold and forward to the extreme; hence the admonition says: 'The woman is bold; do not take this woman.'

Zhouyi ZhengyiTuan commentary

Sub-commentary: This explains the name of the hexagram based on the lines: because Six at the Beginning, a single yielding line, meets five firm lines above, it is named 'Meeting,' which is used to explain the hexagram judgment: 'The woman is bold; do not take the woman.'

From 'Do not take the woman' to 'all things become radiant.' Sub-commentary: 'Do not take the woman, one cannot endure with her for long': the proper nature of a woman is gentle, compliant, chaste, and obedient; only then can one hope to grow old together.

Being licentious and forward like this, one cannot remain with her for long; hence 'do not take the woman.' 'Heaven and earth meet each other, and all things become radiant': below, this broadly clarifies the meaning of meeting.

The hexagram derives the name Meeting originally from one yielding line meeting five firm lines; hence the judgment text is not flattering, taking from the hexagram to say meeting should not be used, which is 'do not take the woman.'

Therefore Confucius further looks to heaven and earth to praise the meaning of 'Meeting' as something that cannot be abandoned.

If heaven and earth were each to stay stubbornly apart without meeting, the myriad kinds of things would have no way to be manifested; the two qi must meet before transformation and birth can occur; hence 'heaven and earth meet each other, and all things become radiant.'

Sub-commentary: Master Zhuang says: 'One woman meeting five men cannot be taken, yet heaven and earth matching can complete all things.'

Speaking from this, if the firm meets yielding that is central and correct, and the man obtains a secluded, chaste woman, then the transformation of human relations under heaven will be practiced on a grand scale. 'Great indeed is the time and meaning of Coming to Meet!'

Sub-commentary: Having broadly praised it above, here he concludes with an exclamation of admiration, intending to draw meaning from the hexagram.

Although one woman meeting five men is not worthy of praise, broadly discussing 'heaven and earth meeting each other' brings about 'all things becoming radiant,' and only then is 'the time and meaning of Coming to Meet great indeed!'

Note: 'Whenever meaning is mentioned' to 'within it lies a deeper intended meaning.' Sub-commentary: The note sets forth a general rule for praising 'meaning,' hence saying 'whenever.'

Examining the name and meaning through the hexagram, it is merely a woman meeting a man; but broadly seeking the profound purport of meeting, it extends to the Dao encompassing heaven and earth; hence it says: 'it is not exhausted by what is seen, within it lies a deeper intended meaning.'

Zhouyi ZhengyiGreat Image

Sub-commentary: When wind moves beneath heaven, there is no creature it does not encounter, hence it is the image of meeting.

'The sovereign ruler, in accordance with this, issues commands and proclaims them to the four quarters': when the wind blows, the grass bends—such is heaven's majestic command; hence the ruler models himself on this to issue educational decrees and proclaim them to the four quarters.
