Being yin and yielding without assistance, while both supporting and riding upon firmness, there ought to be regret.
Yet the fourth, being yin in a yin position, attains the correctness of Xun; residing below the upper trigram, it dwells above yet is able to humble itself downward.
Residing below the upper, it is gentle toward the one above; overlooking the lower with gentleness, it is gentle toward those below. Being so excellent in dwelling, regret vanishes. The reason regret vanishes is like the three grades of the hunt.
The three grades of the hunt reach both above and below. In dividing the catch of the hunt into three grades: one is for dried sacrifice offerings, one is to serve guests and fill the larder, and one is distributed to the attendants and drivers.
The fourth is able to be gentle toward the yang lines above and below, like the three grades of the hunt reaching both above and below. The position of the fourth originally had regret; because he handles it with utmost excellence, regret vanishes and merit is achieved.
In all affairs under heaven, if one handles them well, what was regretful may sometimes be turned into merit.
