I Ching casting

Holding central balance within the lower trigram, this line experiences advancing through sorrow because it lacks an immediate resonance above, leading to the text's promise of great blessing from the royal mother.

The Xiaoxiang Commentary credits this grace to central correctness, while the transformation into Wei Ji hints that unfinished affairs soon find their rightful resolution. Enduring present delays with unswerving integrity ultimately wins the favor of senior protectors.

Career

You may feel isolated in your professional duties, managing heavy responsibilities without overt patronage or peer assistance. Despite the quiet anxiety this creates, your conscientious craftsmanship is being noticed by higher, more discerning figures behind the scenes.

Remain loyal to high professional standards, and authoritative backing will arrive to validate your efforts.

Love & relationships

The partnership may encounter temporary emotional distance or familial hesitation that casts a shadow of quiet worry over both hearts. Because your intentions are honorable and rooted in deep care, elder family members or trusted confidants will eventually offer warm endorsement.

Weathering this quiet stretch together deepens mutual trust and secures domestic acceptance.

Wealth

Financial progress feels slow and burdened by preliminary costs, creating understandable concern regarding short-term liquidity. Relying on conservative, established methods or consulting experienced family advisers will safeguard your assets far better than impulsive fixes.

Stay disciplined with your resources, and substantial financial stability will gradually take root.

2. The second line, divided, shows its subject with the appearance of advancing, and yet of being sorrowful. If he be firm and correct, there will be good fortune. He will receive this great blessing from his grandmother.

Small Image

‘He will receive this great blessing:’—for he is in the central place and the correct position for him.

Classical commentary

Zhouyi BenyiLine statement

Six in the Second Place is central and correct, but lacks correspondence and aid above; hence it wishes to advance yet feels sorrowful. If a diviner like this can maintain correctness, it will be auspicious, and he will receive blessings from his royal mother.

'Royal mother' refers to Six in the Fifth Place, representing an auspicious divination of offering sacrifice to a deceased ancestress; all instances where a Yin line occupies an honored position belong to this category.

The third line is neither central nor correct and ought to have remorse, but because it and the two Yin lines below all wish to advance upward, it is trusted by the multitude and remorse disappears.

Yichuan YizhuanLine statement

Six in the Second Place is below and lacks correspondence and aid above. Endowed with the virtue of central correctness, yielding, and harmony, it does not aggressively push forward; hence its advancement brings sorrow, meaning its advancement is difficult.

Yet if it preserves its perseverance and correctness, it will attain good fortune, hence it says: 'Advancing, sorrowful; perseverance brings good fortune.' 'Royal mother' means grandmother, referring to the most honored of the Yin lines, pointing to Six in the Fifth Place.

The second line guards itself through the Dao of centrality and correctness; though it lacks correspondence and aid above and cannot advance on its own, its central and correct virtue will inevitably shine forth over time, and the superior will naturally seek it.

Six in the Fifth Place, the ruler of great brightness who shares its virtue, will surely seek it and confer honor and emoluments upon it, so that it 'receives this great blessing from its royal mother.' Jiè means great.

Yichuan YizhuanSmall Image

Receiving this great blessing is due to the Dao of centrality and correctness. If a person can hold fast to the Dao of centrality and correctness, he will surely attain success over time—how much more so when great brightness is above and shares the same virtue?

He must surely receive great blessings.

Zhouyi ZhuLine statement

Advancing without correspondence, its virtue is not yet illuminated, hence it is said: 'Advancing, sorrowful.'

Dwelling in the center and attaining its proper position, treading in compliance and correctness, it does not alter its will simply because it lacks correspondence; it is one who can achieve sincerity even while dwelling in obscurity.

Cultivating virtue like this, it is heard in the dim darkness—the good fortune of attaining correctness, hence 'perseverance brings good fortune.' 'Mother' refers to one who dwells within and completes virtue.

'A crane calling in the shade, its young harmonizes with it'; establishing sincerity in darkness, the darkness also responds. Hence at first it is 'sorrowful.' Treading in perseverance without wavering, it then receives this great blessing from its royal mother.

Zhouyi ZhengyiLine statement

From 'Six in the Second Place: advancing, sorrowful' to 'from its royal mother.'

The Correct Meaning says: Regarding 'advancing, sorrowful,' Six in the Second Place advances without correspondence above, and its virtue is not yet revealed, hence 'advancing, sorrowful,' lamenting that it is not yet illuminated.

'Perseverance brings good fortune': yet treading in compliance and dwelling in centrality and correctness, it does not fail to cultivate virtue merely because it lacks correspondence; being correct, it obtains good fortune, hence 'perseverance brings good fortune.'

'Receives this great blessing from its royal mother': jiè means great. 'Mother' refers to one who dwells within and completes virtue.

Although at first it is 'sorrowful,' by preserving correctness without change, it can ultimately receive this great blessing from what it has cultivated; hence it is said, 'receives this great blessing from its royal mother.'

Regarding the note 'Advancing without correspondence' to 'from its royal mother': The Correct Meaning says: 'A crane calling in the shade, its young harmonizes with it' quotes the line statement of Nine in the Second Place of Hexagram Zhong Fu (Inner Truth).
