Yichuan YizhuanLine statement
Only when strength is deficient does oppression arise; the way to make oppression prevail inevitably depends on assistance. In a time of oppression, superior and inferior seeking one another is the natural order.
The fourth line has a proper resonance with the initial line, but Nine in the Fourth Place, dwelling in oppression without centrality and correctness, lacks the talent to rescue others from oppression.
Six at the Beginning is adjacent to the second line, and Nine in the Second Place possesses the talent of firmness and centrality sufficient to save from oppression; thus it is natural for the initial line to follow the second. Metal is hard; a carriage carries goods.
Because the second line carries below with its firmness, it is called a golden carriage. The fourth line wishes to follow the initial line but is blocked by the second; hence its coming is hesitant and slow—this is being 'oppressed by a golden carriage.'
Suspecting that its own resonance looks down upon it and turns elsewhere, it hesitates and dares not advance hastily—how could this not be shameful and regrettable? 'There will be an end' means that the outcome will return to correctness.
The initial and fourth lines are proper resonances and will ultimately unite. The wife of a poor scholar and the minister of a weak state each find peace in their correctness; if they pick and choose according to circumstance, that is the greatest evil, intolerable to the world.
Both the second and fourth lines are yang residing in yin, but the second can rescue from oppression through its firm and central talent. Dwelling in yin values softness; attaining the center does not lose the balance of firmness and softness.
